AI agents that save you money: 12 setups people ran

Last updated · by Thomas, editor · How we verify

These are setups where someone pointed an agent at their bills, receipts or statements. It found a double charge, haggled an internet bill, compared insurance quotes or flagged a price drop. Where a person posted an amount, it's what they stated, linked to the source. We haven't verified those amounts, and plenty of checks like these find nothing.

What they share: the agent reads, compares and drafts, and a person approves anything that's sent, accepted, bought or traded. A few people let theirs talk to the other side; each recipe says exactly where it has to stop and ask.

£580.35 back: an agent caught 13 months of double Adobe charges

His agent noticed one Adobe account had been paying twice for the same plan for about 13 months, found an old email thread with Adobe as proof, contacted support, negotiated and got a £580.35 refund paid back.

$735 owed found by a Payback Grok Bot

She built a Grok Bot called Payback that runs weekly passes for trials about to go paid, duplicate subscriptions, price increases on recurring bills and Amazon return credits, then helps her get the money back. She says its first pass found $735.48.

~$700 back via a ledger-audit Grok Bot

He gave a Grok Bot his company's general ledger for the whole year and told it to find duplicate payments. Most flags were legitimate repeats, but one was a landscaper who had billed twice for the same job. His bookkeeper called, and the landscaper gave a credit of just under $700.

~$3K medical overpay found by a Grok Bot

She gave her Grok Bot the year's medical bills, EOBs, receipts and coverage. It found she had overpaid one provider almost $3,000, spotted several double bills and claims that weren't submitted correctly, and wrote refund requests with the documentation attached.

Suspicious online order → evidence file + refund push

After a dog-house order felt off, the poster's Grok Bot reviewed the emails, gathered proof the seller wasn't authorized, and worked the back-and-forth until the order was canceled and refunded.

How to choose

Common questions

Can an AI agent negotiate my bills?

Some people here let one try. Mike P logged his Grok Bot into his Xfinity account; it haggled in the support chat, turned down a mobile line twice and came back with 300 Mbps for $70.90 a month, and he authorized the final deal. Jaco says his bot called his insurer and got his annual renewal cut by $2,500. Part of the Xfinity saving was a slower plan, so compare at the same speed or the same cover.

Can an AI agent make phone calls for me?

One setup here did. Jaco hooked xAI voice up to his bot and had it call his current insurer. The others work by chat or email: the Xfinity bot used the support chat, and other insurance and medical setups emailed the agent or the provider. Our insurance prompt has the bot write the script first, and the call must open by saying it's an AI assistant calling for you.

Is it safe to give an agent my bank or medical statements?

These setups limit what the agent may do with them. The tax harvester gets read-only brokerage access and only recommends. The ledger audit and Payback only flag and draft. Our medical prompt never sends a message, logs in to a portal or pays without your yes for that specific item. Where the Xfinity bot needed the account, its owner logged it in himself.

How much can you save?

We can't tell you. The amounts on these pages are what each person posted: £580.35 back from Adobe, $43 a month off an Xfinity bill, $2,500 off an insurance renewal, almost $3,000 overpaid to one medical provider, $735.48 found by Payback's first pass. We haven't verified them, some were found or requested rather than paid back, and many checks like these find nothing. Most of the ledger audit's flags were legitimate repeats.

What's the best AI agent for personal finance?

Most setups here run on Grok Bot; the Adobe refund didn't name its agent. Four people published theirs as a Grok Bot template: Payback, Receipt Price-Drop Checker, Tax harvester and Home Finder. Pick by the job rather than the tool: money you're owed, a bill to haggle, or a price or deadline to watch.
