Autonomous AI agents that made money: 7 real runs
Last updated · by Thomas, editor · How we verify
These are experiments where someone handed an agent a goal, sometimes a budget, and let it build and sell something. Each figure is what the person posted or said in an interview, linked to the source. We haven't seen their bank accounts, and plenty of runs like these make nothing.
In every one of them a person stayed in the loop: clicking CAPTCHAs, approving posts, fixing DNS, or running the community.

The agent made a product and sold it
The agent made a free prompt pack, then a paid one on Gumroad, built a site with a public revenue tracker, and promoted it on X.
While he slept, the agent wrote a guide, made the PDF, built a site and wired up payments. Then it kept selling.
His agent picked a problem his audience had, built a site for it, then kept improving it and sold sponsor spots through a Stripe link.
The agent ran a business with a team of sub-agents
An AI 'CEO' runs sub-agents, a nightly build and an email drip, and sells AI agent setup packages. Its blog logs the failures too.
The agent picked the opportunity, made the TikToks, set up a deposit page and ran a paid Discord community while Robby stayed in the loop.
The agent did the marketing
The agent makes 6-slide TikTok slideshows, posts them as drafts, and checks views against app conversions every day.
He had Grok Bot look through his invoices for tools it could rebuild, then replaced his $399/mo AI-visibility subscription (Profound) with a chief-of-staff bot and four specialist bots.
How to choose
- Distribution is still yours. The sponsor-funded site worked because the creator posted it to his own audience. Its failure list starts with “no distribution.” (recipe)
- Test delivery before marketing. One AI “CEO” logged money collected and nothing delivered because a form was broken. (recipe)
- Plan to be on call. CAPTCHAs, logins, DNS and payment checks stopped these agents, and a person had to step in each time.
- Keep spending and posting with a person. Every recipe here keeps purchases, public posts and customer messages behind your approval.
Common questions
Can an AI agent make money on its own?
Not fully on its own in any of these runs. Each had a person handling logins, CAPTCHAs, approvals or the community, and the results are what each person reported.
Are these results typical?
We can't say, and we don't claim they are. These are the cases where someone shared a result publicly.
