Walk into a store and your bot tells you what to grab

His bots add errands to a shared Notion list. When he arrives at a store, an iPhone Shortcut fires a Grok Bot routine that tells him what to buy there, and stays quiet if there's nothing.

What the source did

  • Made a shared "Errands" list in Notion. Any of his bots adds to it when he mentions something he needs, tagged by place type (hardware store, grocery, pharmacy).
  • Created a Grok Bot routine with a webhook trigger that checks the list for anything he can get where he is.
  • Built an iPhone Shortcuts automation: "When I arrive at [store]" → Get Contents of URL → POST to the routine's webhook with a Bearer key and {"place": "[store]"}.
  • Duplicated it for each store he visits regularly; only the store name changes.
  • When he tells the bot he got something, it checks it off. No match, no ping.

Their prompt

From Mike P Their exact wording: his five setup steps, as posted. Source ↗

1️⃣ Made a shared "Errands" list in Notion. Any of my bots adds to it when I mention something I need ("get furnace filters"), tagged by place type: hardware store, grocery, pharmacy, etc. 2️⃣ Created a Grok Bot routine with a webhook trigger. When it fires, my bot checks the errands list for anything I can knock out where I am. 3️⃣ On my iPhone, I built a Shortcuts automation: "When I arrive at Wegmans" → Get Contents of URL → POST to the routine's webhook with a Bearer key and {"place": "Wegmans"}. 4️⃣ I duplicated it for each store I go to regularly. Same URL and key, and only the store name changes. 5️⃣ Now when I walk into a store, my bot pings me with what to grab there. If there's nothing, it stays quiet. When I tell it I got something, it checks it off.

Our adapted version

Ours Our routine prompt for step 2, based on his steps. Fill in the [BRACKETS].

Routine (webhook trigger). Input: {"place": "<store name>"}. 1. Read my Notion "Errands" list. Each item has a place type: grocery, hardware, pharmacy, etc. 2. Work out the place type for <store name> and find open items that match. 3. If there are matches, message me one short list: "At <store>: item, item, item." 4. If nothing matches, send nothing. Whenever I mention something I need in any chat, add it to Errands with a place type. When I say I got something, check it off.

Approval rule

🛡
Read and check off only; it doesn't buy anything.

Set it up

  1. Create the Errands list in Notion with a "place type" property and connect Notion to Grok Bot.
  2. Create the routine above with a webhook trigger and note its URL and key.
  3. In iPhone Shortcuts, add a "When I arrive" automation for a store: Get Contents of URL, method POST, Bearer key header, body {"place": "Store name"}.
  4. Duplicate the automation for each store you visit often.

Common failures

⚠
  • Store names that don't map to a place type; add the type to the request body if needed.
  • Pinging when nothing matches; the routine should stay quiet.

Variations

  • Trigger on leaving work instead, with stores on the way home.
  • Share the list with a partner so both of you get the ping.
