What the source did

  • Asked Claude Code to set up notifications for permission or input requests.

Summary written by Agent Cookbook. See the original for the full context.

Copy the prompt

Ours Our version, based on what Prashanth Vaidya described. Not their wording. Fill in the [BRACKETS].

Set up a Claude Code Notification hook in my user settings that shows a desktop notification "Claude needs input: [project folder]" whenever you're waiting on me or a permission. Use [osascript on macOS / notify-send on Linux]. Show me the settings JSON before writing it.

Approval rule

🛡
Approve the settings edit yourself; hooks run shell commands.

Set it up

  1. Paste the prompt in any session.
  2. Approve the settings change.
  3. Trigger a permission prompt to test.

Common failures

⚠
  • Notification spam if you run many sessions; include the folder name.
  • Hooks copied from the web can run anything. Read them.

Variations

  • Send to your phone via a push service.
  • Also notify on Stop (task finished).
